Departmental scholarships are sponsored by individual departments and colleges at the University of Utah and are not coordinated by Learning Abroad.  The sponsoring department or college determines the criteria, award amounts, recipients, deadlines, and application process. While Learning Abroad provides the application materials, the sponsoring department will collect the application and send out the award notifications.

Department of Languages & Literature Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship is available for students who are participating in a University of Utah intensive language program. This scholarship is only available for summer programs.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Matriculated student at the U of U
  • Applying for a summer intensive language program led by a faculty member in the Department of World Languages and Cultures
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • You must begin an online program application to be considered

Deadline: March 1, 2016. All scholarship materials must be submitted to the Department of World Languages and Cultures in LNCO 1400 by the deadline.

Global Public Health Scholarships

The Division of Public Health has two Global Public Health Scholarships for summer 2016.

*The Global Public Health Learning Abroad Scholarship: A general scholarship to help defray educational costs for qualified undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in a learning abroad program through the Division of Public Health.

Award amount: 1 award in the amount of $1,000 

 Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must be enrolled in one of the following learning abroad programs to be eligible for award:
    • Summer Global Health in Ghana
    • Summer Global Health in Armenia
    • Summer Global Health in Peru
    • Summer Global Health in India

 *The Global Public Health Innovation Competition:  An endowment fund established to award an undergraduate or graduate student who has completed a learning abroad program and desires to return to the same region to implement an innovative idea in collaboration with a faculty mentor for improving health.  The prize shall be used to help cover expenses incurred by each student while traveling and executing his or her idea.

Award amount: 1 award in the amount of $2,000 (for returning students)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students must be enrolled in one of the following learning abroad programs to be eligible for award:
    • Summer Global Health in Ghana
    • Summer Global Health in Armenia
    • Summer Global Health in Peru
    • Summer Global Health in India

Please be aware that scholarships may impact financial aid. It is the student’s responsibility to investigate the impact on the acceptance of a scholarship.

International Studies in Kiel, Germany Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship is available for International Studies majors participating in the International Studies in Kiel, Germany program.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Students must begin an online application for the program before you are able to apply for the scholarship.
  • You must have declared a major in International Studies.
  • You must participate in the International Studies in Kiel, Germany program.

Deadline: March 9, 2016. All scholarship materials must be submitted to the International & Area Studies office in CTIHB 210 by the deadline.

Middle East Study Abroad Scholarship

 This scholarship is available for students participating in a U of U affiliated program in the Middle East. 

Deadline: March 9, 2016. All scholarship materials must be submitted to the International & Area Studies office in the Carolyn Tanner Irish Humanities Building Room 210 by the deadline.

Jack Lunt/Gordon & Connie Hanks Prize for Summer Study in the College of Fine Arts

These scholarships are only available for students who are participating in a University of Utah summer program.

Award Amount: 1 award in the amount of $500.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Matriculated student at the U of U
  • Applying for a summer 2016 program abroad
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • You must be an undergraduate student majoring in the College of Fine Arts

Deadline: February 27, 2016.  All scholarship materials must be submitted to the College of Fine Arts Dean's Office in ART, Room 250 by the deadline.
