If you would like to volunteer as a student panelist, please email learningabroad@utah.edu.
  • Present your research at our Fall Fair Poster Session
    • Learning Abroad hosts a research poster sessions at the annual Fall Learning Abroad Fair. The research poster session gives you the opportunity to share the scholarly work you created during your Learning Abroad Program(s) with the University community. The poster session is open to all undergraduate and graduate students who participated in an approved Learning Abroad Program.
    • Learning Abroad welcomes proposals for any type of research and creative works. The definition of research varies by field of study, and should not always be considered scientific (if you wrote a paper, you most likely did research).  A faculty member can help determine which elements of a Learning Abroad program would be considered research.
    • Please refer to the Learning Abroad Research Poster session Guidelines for more information on eligibility, deadlines, and the submission form. Please contact Learning Abroad at learningabroad.utah.edu with any questions.

Leadership Opportunities

Language Study

Perhaps you were immersed in another language during your Learning Abroad program and you’re looking for ways to continue your language practice now that you’ve returned home. The good news is that there are multiple opportunities in which you can further your language learning right here at home. For example, you can take a University of Utah course in the language of your choice or sign up for the Language Partner Exchange program

You can also receive funding to study languages that the US government has deemed “critical languages”, such as by applying for a Boren Scholarships, a Critical Language Scholarships, or a FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) Fellowship. Whatever you choose to do, there are many ways to study the language(s) you learned during your time abroad!

Dual Immersion Schools

Salt Lake City has dual immersion classrooms across the valley. Students who have studied second languages often make excellent volunteers because they are able to practice their language while giving students one-on-one tutoring and/or assisting teachers in preparing for classes. For questions about volunteering, contact the school’s administration office. You can find a listing of Utah’s immersion schools here.
